A Place to Stay, a Place to Experience
Matt Simister, General Manager, Hotel Indigo Auckland
Hotel Indigo Auckland is not simply where Fashion Week guests sleep. It is where the week begins. Shaped by the neighbourhood it calls home and grounded in a commitment to experience over expectation, the hotel has become an integral part of what NZFW looks and feels like beyond Shed 10.
We spoke with General Manager Matt Simister about what sets Hotel Indigo apart, what to order at Bistro Saine, and why this is the place to be in August.
For someone visiting Auckland for the first time, how would you describe the Hotel Indigo experience?
"Experience and storytelling are really important to us. We sit at this intersection of arts, history, and culture, and we love to be involved in that community from a design, art, and experience point of view. So you're not just coming here for a stay at a hotel. You're really coming for an experience."

Bistro Saine is a draw in its own right. What should guests be ordering?
"It's very hard to go past the steak frites, the red wine jus, and the béarnaise sauce, along with those fries. But the team cares so much about what they're delivering. The Chef spends a lot of time, every three months, reinvigorating the menu with the freshest, most seasonal produce. Whatever's new on the menu is probably the most exciting thing to try, because it's something he's just worked really hard on and delivered. But it's also hard to go past the classics."

For someone coming to Auckland for NZFW, why should Hotel Indigo be their base for the week?
"We're really set up to support Fashion Week. We'll have a lot going on within the hotel, a number of activations, and we have transfers running from the hotel directly to Shed 10 for every show. It's a great place to stay, and a great place to experience the week."
