When is New Zealand Fashion Week?

New Zealand Fashion Week 2010 (trade event) will open on Monday evening 20th September with shows running from Tuesday 21nd September to Friday 24th September. Fashion Weekend runs from Friday 24th September to Saturday 25th  September 2010.

Who can attend?

New Zealand Fashion Week is a trade show for registered international and domestic buyers, international and domestic media and industry spectators from the fashion sector who attend as delegates. Registered delegates' names are supplied to the individual designers for consideration for invitations to their shows.

How can the public experience New Zealand Fashion Week?

In response to high demand from New Zealand’s discerning fashion public, opportunities have been created for the public to become part of Fashion Week.   Go to our Consumer Options page for full details of public access opportunities.

Do I have to register? How?

All media and buyers, international and domestic, must register as delegates to be entitled to the privileges that are inherent in early registration.   Links to on-line registration will be posted on this site soon.

Do I need a pass for each show?

Yes. While a delegate's pass gives you registration and entry to the event, exhibition, and tickets for the Group Shows and ghd New Generation Designer show; you will need a separate invitation for each individual designer show.

Allocated Seating for Individual Shows is at the discretion of the designer/s, not NZFW management. Seating is limited and highly sought after.

To attend an Individual Show you must register your interest directly to the designer and wait for confirmation of your seats from each designer. The sooner you register, the greater your chance of being invited to attend the Individual Shows.

Who will be invited as guests of New Zealand and New Zealand Fashion Week?
Key international media and buyers are invited to attend each year, focusing on those who will either generate significant sales or enhance the profile of the event internationally. These guests will be announced nearer the event.

Who is the organiser?

New Zealand Fashion Week is organised by Pieter Stewart, Managing Director of New Zealand Fashion Week Ltd, in consultation with fashion industry supporters and advisers.

While we are happy to discuss dedicated angles with media, no exclusive media rights are offered.

How has the event grown?

Now in its 10th successful year, New Zealand Fashion Week has grown considerably since its inception.

The number of delegates attending since the event began in 2001 has grown by around 20%, with the total number of guests growing by almost 50%. The greatest growth has been in the number of photographers and TV crews which has tripled since 2001, a sure sign that New Zealand fashion looks good anywhere in the world.

I can't attend - where can I get pictures, graphics and updates of the shows?

A selection of images from all collections will be available on the website after each show. You can access the images by going to the photo gallery section on this website.

The images in the gallery are sufficient resolution (300 dpi) for magazine reproduction. They will be copyright free for editorial use on attribution to ' New Zealand Fashion Week/Michael Ng'.

What opportunities does it provide for New Zealand designers?

While sales figures naturally remain the business of the designers, feedback to the organisers has been overwhelmingly positive with labels taking orders well in excess of previous years. Anecdotal evidence points growth of up to 300% for some designers.

Media coverage and exposure for our designers is also huge. Now in its 10th year, New Zealand Fashion Week has established itself as one of the country’s best known and financially viable brands – generating $64million in media coverage for the year to date (plus online coverage), more than twice that of previous years and proof of its status as a key event on the New Zealand calendar.

Since 2001, the event has also resulted in:

Record sales figures at retail fashion outlets in Auckland and around the country Huge employment opportunities both in the lead up to and during the event and as a result of the sales generated An exciting buzz created throughout Auckland particularly during and in the lead-up to the event.

Research into the economic impact of New Zealand Fashion Week found the event to be worth an estimated $23.2 million to the New Zealand economy in terms of total output generated, and an estimated $19.2 million in the Auckland economy.

What are New Zealand's apparel exports worth?

New Zealand's total apparel exports to the world for the year to June 2006 were NZ$327 million, up by 1/12 million from 2005, representing steady growth in exports for the past year considering the high New Zealand dollar.

What are New Zealand's key export markets?

Australia is New Zealand's key market for apparel exports, taking 71% of our total apparel exports to the world. Total apparel exports to Australia for the year to June 2005 totalled NZ$225.4 million, up from NZ$224.6 million in 2004.

Other key apparel export markets are the USA (9.2%), UK (6.9%), Hong Kong (2%) and Japan (1.9%).

Are there any packages or special rates available for travel and accommodation?

Air New Zealand is the official airline for New Zealand Fashion Week. Special rates and packages of air travel, accommodation and vehicle hire will be available through internet for lowest possible fares. The Westin Auckland is the official hotel and will be offering special delegate rates, which can be accessed when registering on-line.
